Meta Ray-Ban Display: what a third-party app can do
The only one of these with an official, documented display API for phone apps — with real limits on audio and input.

We built against the toolkit (version 1.0.0, iOS) using Meta's mock device. We haven't run it on physical Ray-Ban Display glasses yet — this page will be updated when we do.
The toolkit
- Distributed as a Swift Package. The parts we used: a core module (registration, device selection, sessions), a display module, and a mock-device module.
- Stable: the display. You start a session on a device that supports display, add a display, and push views built from simple layout and text primitives (for example a column of text rows with primary and secondary styles).
- Experimental: speech, inputs, and the glasses' microphone (only available through a camera stream). Meta's documentation says experimental features can't be used in apps you publish — so for a shipping app, use the phone's microphone.
Registration and setup
- Create a project in Meta's wearables developer console (bundle ID, team ID, and a universal link for the registration callback).
- Your app's Info.plist carries a toolkit configuration dictionary (app ID and client token), plus the background modes and accessory protocol the toolkit checks for.
- Users register your app through the Meta AI app; the callback returns to your app through the universal link. During development, glasses in developer mode skip the app ID.
Developing without the glasses
The mock-device module pairs a simulated Ray-Ban Display on the phone and gives you a preview view of what the lens would show. That's how we built and tested our captions screen before having hardware.
Practical notes
- Throttle updates. For live captions we send at most one update every 0.35 s and show 4 rows.
- Compared with Even G2, you get a supported, documented path — but less control: no raw canvas, and no published microphone stream for shipping apps.
